MASTER THE BUSINESS OF YOUR BOOK

You Wrote the Book.
Now learn how to launch it.

Publishing is a business and nobody hands you the playbook. Page One Education gives authors—at every stage—the strategies, expert access, and community they need to get their book into the hands of readers and keep it there.

THE REALITY

Writing the book is only half the job.

Publishers don't hand you a roadmap.

Most authors are left to figure out marketing, platform-building, and audience development entirely on their own.

Full-service publicity isn't accessible to everyone.

Premium PR and publicity support can cost tens of thousands—before your book has sold a single copy.

But the knowledge? That's accessible now.

Page One Education brings expert insight directly to you—at a fraction of the cost.
WHO IS THIS FOR?

Wherever you are in your author journey, there's a place for you here. Let Sarah be your guide.

I spent 20 years in-house at publishers including Knopf, Doubleday, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, and Oxford University Press — and left because I was tired of being the party of "no." Page One Media works with a small number of clients on premium publicity campaigns. Page One Education exists so every author, not just the ones who can afford an agency, gets access to that same strategic thinking.

Sarah Russo is the founder and CEO of Page One Media, a literary public relations firm, and Page One Education, and a publishing professional with twenty-seven years of experience working across the spectrum of publicity, communications, traditional marketing, social media marketing, branding, and business development. Sarah has worked in-house for Alfred A. Knopf, Doubleday, Scribner, Other Press, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, and Oxford University Press, and as a consultant for organizations and companies including the National Book Critics Circle, Association of University Presses, American Booksellers Association, Curtis Brown, Ltd., Europa Editions and many more. Most recently, Sarah was the Global Head of Audience Engagement for Oxford University Press, which included managing the publicity, social media, trade marketing, and corporate communications teams. Her work at OUP spanned trade books, the dictionaries program, journals, and online products. Sarah is currently a mentor in the 92nd Street Y’s Women inPower fellowship program and faculty in the Columbia Journalism School’s Publishing Course, she serves on the Board of Directors of Restless Books and is part of Cohort 46 of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Accelerator.

HOW IT WORKS

Simple. Flexible. Built for authors who are already busy.

01

Choose the right tier for where you are

Not sure where you fit? Start with Draft and grow into it.

Draft is designed to give you the broadest possible publishing education. If you don't know where to start, this is the perfect place.
02

Learn from industry experts

Structured courses, on-demand resources, and live Q&A sessions give you direct access to people who know how publishing works—not how it "seems" from the outside.
03

Apply what you learn and move the needle for your book

This is about actionable steps, not purely information. You will walk away from every session with concrete next right actions you can take on your targeted strategy, your marketing, or your author brand.
GETTING STARTED

Pick Draft as your starting point. Join a higher level when a spot is open.

For a fraction of the cost of our agency campaigns you can access our strategic knowledge and every tier includes access to our community of authors navigating the publishing journey. Because book publishing is hard but it's a little easier when you're not doing it alone.

Memberships are month-to-month, although there are some perks for longer commitments. Note that spots in Proof and First Edition are limited—we keep these tiers intentionally small to make sure everyone has the dedicated time they are investing in.

QUESTIONS

A few things authors often ask us.

How is Page One Education different from a writing class?

Page One Education is not about the craft of writing. It is about the business of being an author. We don’t teach you how to write a better book (there are great people doing that work out there and you will find them in our resources guide inside Page One Education!). We teach you how to work with your publisher, build your audience, market your book, and build your career as an author.

I’m not published yet. Is this for me?

Absolutely. In fact, the earlier you start understanding how publishing works, the stronger your position will be when you’re ready to pitch, query, or launch. Our Draft tier is designed for authors in all stages who want to better understand what is expected of them during the publishing process and also how to get there. Authors come to us before they even have a book deal to help build their audience, we can teach you how we do that work and what you can do for yourself.

Can I move to a higher tier later?

Draft is month-to-month and open to all, although there are some perks for those who subscribe for 12-months. Proof and First Edition are limited — five spots and two spots respectively — to ensure every member gets genuine access to Sarah and quality doesn’t suffer as we grow. If you’re interested in a higher tier, see if there is a spot open and we can help you upgrade. If there isn't an available spot, we encourage you to join the waitlist. When a spot opens, you’ll be first to know.

Is Page One Education affiliated with a specific publisher, type of publishing, or genre?

No. Our curriculum spans books of all kinds: trade, academic-trade, professional, and from big-5 publishers to indie and university presses, we work with them all! We also work with authors writing everything from memoir and literary fiction to nonfiction across all subject areas. Publishing is publishing — the business fundamentals apply across genres and vary a bit depending on who is publishing your book.

What is the relationship between Page One Education and Page One Media?

Page One Education is the educational arm of Page One Media (P1M), a full-service author publicity and strategy firm. Our members get the knowledge and tools that our premium clients benefit from — just in a format that works for authors at every budget level. It’s equity in publishing, in practice.

Where did the idea for Page One Education come from?

Page One Education almost happened back in 2019, when I first left my in-house publishing job — I'd started writing lessons and building a curriculum before a pandemic (and a wave of authors asking for publicity help) sent me toward building Page One Media instead. The idea never went away. In the fall of 2025, I was accepted into the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program, and in a room of 39 other business owners, it became clear that almost everyone wanted to write a book and had no idea where to start. That's when Page One Education finally came together. Read more here on our blog

Can I cancel or change my order? Can I get my money back?

Page One Education is a month-to-month subscription and you can cancel at any time and not join us for the next month. We are sorry but we can't process mid-month cancellations or partial refunds.

I have another question, how do I get help?

Please email us at hello@page1m.com with your question and we'll get back to you within 48 hours.

YOUR BOOK DESERVES THIS

You have a story to tell. Now let's make sure the world finds it.

The publishing industry moves fast. Your launch window is finite. The good news? You don't have to figure it out alone, and you don't have to wait.
